Our Lifestyle

Colorado Selfie

Danny is employed by the US Forest Service, where he trains rookie firefighters and pilots on how to tackle wildland fires and utilize suppression tactics. For Danny, this job is a dream come true, as he gets to fly around in an aircraft and put out wildfires. He loves his job and looks forward to going to work every day. However, since his job is very demanding and challenging, he spends his free time enjoying the peace and serenity of nature. This includes activities such as strolling through quiet woods, sitting by rivers, working in his backyard garden, and spending quality time with his furry friend. Danny also loves to share his passion for the outdoors and is excited to pass on his love to his children. Danny enjoys sharing his love of the outdoors and is excited to share his love with his children.

Emily has a chaotic and stressful job as well, trying to encourage 12-14 year olds in the classroom each day. She has been a middle school social studies teacher for the last 6 years. She cares deeply about the quality of public education, and making sure that all students have access to education, regardless of their circumstances. At the end of a long day, she likes to workout, cook a nice meal, and curl up on the couch with a book. During school breaks, we take advantage of the school schedule to have more adventurous trips.

Our Leisure Time

Danny Rafting

Danny has had many exciting adventures in the past, including climbing mountains, exploring backcountry wilderness areas, and visiting international heritage sites. However, these days he prefers spending his time in quiet woods, by rivers, and in his backyard garden, where he likes to relax with his dog. At home, Danny enjoys lighting a small campfire, gardening, and taking care of the bird feeders, which he has a soft spot for. He is also interested in woodworking and loves to challenge himself with house "fixer-upper" projects.

Emily Baking

On the other hand, Emily likes to stay active by going on long walks, hikes, or working out at the gym. She loves baking, especially when it's for a coworker's birthday. During the spring, she coaches track and field, having been a distance runner herself. While she also enjoys gardening, she prefers cooking the harvest. Emily is an avid reader and likes to read fantasy books when she's not grading papers.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

At Home With Our Pup, Meghan

Emily About Danny: I love that my husband is incredibly kind. Just listen to the baby voice he uses to wake up our dog "Helloooo Meghan" and the way he dotes on her, the way he has learned to be very specific in giving feedback on things I bake and is my hype person for entering my baking in contests, and the way he lets me put my freezing feet on him to warm up when we watch movies. I admire that he has lived an incredibly adventurous life: being a mountaineering guide, dangerous and grueling wildland firefighting, and skydiving, but is very humble. His time firefighting and living out of a backpack has also made him very content with living simply. He also is also incredibly calm in stressful situations.

Danny About Emily: Emily possesses numerous admirable qualities, but one of my favorites is her willingness to offer help and support to those in need. She has been there for her friends and family members countless times, providing comfort during difficult times such as deaths, divorces, and other life struggles. Emily instinctively knows what kind of comfort is needed in such situations. Another one of my favorite things about her is the way she reacts when she sees anything cute. Whether it's a newborn child, a puppy, or a group of baby goats, Emily's response is always the same - she simply melts. Her smile, eyes, and body language all show pure joy and happiness.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Nestled in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, our charming mid-century home, showcasing iconic 1950s architecture, exudes warmth and character. We have painstakingly renovated the home ourselves to make an inviting and functional space, with a Star Baker's kitchen. A spacious backyard invites relaxation, where our vegetables are lovingly nurtured and where warm evenings are spent by the fire pit under the starry desert sky. The mountain view is a grounding presence on our daily walks with our dog, Meghan, as we see the breathtaking pink and purple desert sunsets. The local park boasts soccer fields, playgrounds, and a swimming pool for summer afternoons. Our neighborhood reminds one of 50s and 60s suburban tranquility, where families go on leisurely afternoon walks, while being in the heart of a vibrant city.

Emily in Our Garden

Midtown, a tapestry of diverse cultures and friendly faces, boasts tree and cactus-lined streets and an eclectic array of locally-owned shops and cafes. Strolling through our community feels like a discovery of hidden gems, with colorful murals adorning walls and the scent of blooming Creosote in the air. With the bustling energy of downtown just a stone's throw away, our home embraces the perfect blend of tranquility and urban vibrancy, both inviting breathtaking hikes and Broadway shows minutes away.

Our Extended Families

At the Beach House With Emily's Family

Both of our families are enthusiastically supportive of our adoption plan!

Danny's Parents With the Grandchildren

Emily's mom is a retired school librarian, and she is excited about sharing her love of reading with our future child. Emily considers her mom to be her best friend. They talk on the phone every day (sometimes multiple times a day), shortly followed by her sister. Emily's dad is a retired Navy veteran and attorney. While spread around the country, we enjoy getting together for holidays at the Galveston beach house and traveling together multiple times a year. At the beach house we fish, cook together, and laugh over meals on the patios.

From South Dakota, Danny's family enjoys getting together for Christmas traditions. Danny's sister and brother, along with his nieces and nephews, also live across the country, but we enjoy getting together any time we can. Danny's family is ethnically diverse, valuing the food and culture of Ecuador and African American traditions. The family is very loving and welcoming to diversity. His parents love spending time with their grandchildren.

From Us to You

As we sit down to write this letter, our hearts are brimming with excitement, gratitude, and an overwhelming sense of respect for the incredibly significant decision you are facing. We are Danny and Emily, a couple united by love, commitment, and the shared dream of building a family. In our two years of marriage, we have cultivated a bond that is steeped in love, and now, as we embark on the journey of parenthood, we find ourselves humbled by the prospect of welcoming a child into our lives.

Our commitment to service has been a cornerstone of our relationship. As a teacher and a firefighter, we have dedicated our lives to making a positive impact in our community. The lessons we impart in the classroom and the bravery we exhibit on the frontlines are reflections of our shared values-integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. We believe that these experiences have not only fortified our connection but have also equipped us with the skills and resilience that will undoubtedly make us better parents.

Choosing adoption is an intimate and profound decision, and we want you to know that we approach this journey with open hearts, open minds, and profound respect for the unique journey each member of the adoption triad experiences. If you choose us, your child will be embraced in a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the promise of a lifetime of love.

The decision to embark on an open adoption journey is one we approach with genuine enthusiasm and a deep understanding of its importance. We believe in the beauty of openness-the opportunity for your child to know their story, their roots, and the incredible love that surrounds them from both their birth and adoptive families. We are committed to fostering an environment where your child feels a sense of belonging, understanding, and pride in their unique narrative.

Our commitment to openness extends to the level of contact that feels right for you. Whether it's exchanging letters, sharing photos, or even visits, we are open to creating a plan that respects your wishes and ensures the well-being and happiness of your child. We view openness not just as a commitment but as an opportunity to celebrate the beautiful tapestry of love that surrounds your child.

In our home, education, creativity, and exploration are encouraged. We look forward to nurturing your child's interests and passions, providing them with a solid foundation to discover their own identity and forge their unique path in life. Our hope is to instill in them the values of kindness, compassion, and resilience, creating an environment where they feel empowered to dream big and embrace the possibilities that life offers.

As teachers and firefighters, we have learned the importance of adaptability, patience, and empathy-traits we believe will make us compassionate and understanding parents. The experiences we've gained in our professions have taught us the value of community, teamwork, and the ability to handle challenges with grace.

We understand the weight of the decision before you and want to assure you that, if you choose us, your child will be enveloped in love from every direction. Our commitment to them is lifelong-a promise to be present, to listen, to encourage, and to provide the support they need to become the best version of themselves.

As we close this letter, we want to express our deepest gratitude for considering us as potential parents for your precious child. We are ready and eager to embark on this journey of love, growth, and shared memories. Our hearts are open, and our arms are ready to embrace the joy and challenges that parenthood brings.

With heartfelt appreciation and warm regards,

Danny & Emily
